News & Updates 1/17/25

From Amy:

The island is covered with light snow, and it’s beautiful outside! As we head into the long MLK Day weekend, I write to share how impressive the 7th grade was in their sharing at the Morning Meetings this week. The 7th graders provided details about the life and courage of Dr. Martin Luther King, including an excellent visual presentation through Google Maps to include details of where in the world MLK spent time and worked.

It was also fun to watch the Upper School students engage in the spelling bee, working through words such as carburetor, camouflage, and monologue. The challenge grows with every round and even the teachers were struggling with some of the spelling words. I’m looking forward to more spelling activity next week!

In the spirit of service and helping our community, Lower Schoolers jumped in to join the Clean Team, spending their recess using trash grabbers to pick up scattered trash around the campus. I’ve never seen children so eager to pick up random pieces of trash. “There’s a plastic bottle! I”LL GET IT!!” Students collected over 100 pounds of trash this week (quickly done when one item of trash was a large tire!).

Enjoy the weekend, whether you’re pond skating or headed off island for other adventures!

Warmly,
