News & Updates 8/21/24

From Amy:

It’s with enthusiasm that I welcome the New School community back-to-school!  I am eager to get the school year started. As I write, teachers are rearranging classrooms and organizing for the year ahead. There’s a great deal of positive energy on the campus and yet, it doesn’t feel quite right without children! We can’t wait to welcome 174 students to school on September 4th!

As I begin my first year at New School, I look forward to getting to know every student, family, and faculty member, and the extended Nantucket community! Please engage with me in the school community, whether through volunteering opportunities, attending events, or simply joining a Morning Meeting. We will continue to prioritize communication and collaboration, and your support, partnership, and presence are essential.

Please review the following information regarding the routines of school and complete forms on My New School so we’re ready to go on day one!

If you have any questions about the information below, we're here to help! Please email admin@nantucketnewschool.org.

Drop Off and Pick Up
Staff members will open car doors in the morning and teachers will supervise students during pick-up. We have different drop off and pick up locations based on grades.

During bad weather, we will follow the same timing and locations as any day, we will simply call your children out of the building with handheld radios. Please display the name of your child at all times when you are picking up.

Drop Off: 7:45-8:00am
  • PK Drop off: Parents may park and walk them into the Strong Wings building.
  • K & Lower School Drop off: New School
  • Upper School Drop off: Strong Wings

Pick Up
  • PK Pick Up: 2:30pm at Strong Wings
    • If you're picking up your child in PK and siblings in K-4, we suggest that you park at the New School and walk over to Strong Wings for PK pickup at 2:30, then swing back to the New School for K-4 pickup.
  • K & Lower School Pick Up: 2:40pm at New School
    • Park and come into the classroom to pick up your children each day! If a K-4 student has a sibling in the Upper School, that sibling will report to the youngest student’s classroom.
  • Upper School Pick Up: 2:40pm at Strong Wings
    • If an Upper School student has a sibling in K-4, they should report to the youngest student’s classroom.
Coffees/Morning Meetings
We will be hosting parent/caregiver coffees regularly this year, and we encourage you to pop in once in a while! Morning Meetings are open to parents, grandparents, and visitors every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 9:45am.

Thanks
It will take me a bit of time to get to know everyone by name! Thank you for sharing your most precious children with us: it’s an honor and a privilege to share in their education and I look forward to serving children and families in my new role as Head.  Welcome!

Warmly,

Amy Vorenberg
Head of School
