Happy Friday!
Another busy and full week at the New School. Today, we end with Field Day - with much fanfare and excitement! Never have I seen such amazing outfits – from the brightly colored hair to the sparkles and facepaint, and tutus, the students came ready to play! It has been a great day as we enjoyed being outdoors, playing games, rooting for teammates, and celebrating Field Day! For me, it’s been fun to watch the mixed-age groups of students work together, taking care of each other and having a blast. It’s also been impressive to see the leadership of the 8th graders. As one 8th grader commented, “It’s really fun to have Field Day - it’s even more fun to plan it!” I am grateful for their enthusiasm and thoughtfulness!
I hope to see many of you tonight at the Fall Family Fest (a re-brand from the Back-to-School Picnic). There’ll be hot dogs and hamburgers, as well as sides/desserts shared by families. It’s a great chance to reconnect with old friends and meet new members of the community. It’s a great way to end a wonderful week, join us between 4:00 - 6:00 pm on the Strong Wings side of campus.
Our Parent Coffee series continues on Tuesday morning, October 8th at 8:00 am in the Great Hall. Upper School parents are invited to stop by for coffee and conversation. In November, we’ll move to monthly coffees that will focus on specific areas of the curriculum. We’ll start our conversation over coffee on Tuesday, November 12th with a discussion about math.
This weekend, I continue my orientation in island living with a lesson in scalloping with Tracy Bakalar! I’m excited to harvest from the sea and create something delicious for dinner! Wish me scalloping luck!
