From Danielle:

Pi Day
Students really got into the spirit of Pi Day this week! If you’re not familiar, Pi (Greek letter “π”) is approximately 3.14159 (and more!) and the symbol that represents the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter. Pi Day is an annual math celebration to try to recite the infinite digits of Pi, talk to friends about math, and eat pie. We did all of that!

A student from each grade memorized an astonishing number of digits and recited them in front of the full school. A special shoutout to 4th grader Nora Connolly, who recited 116 digits! Even NASA only uses 16 digits in their calculations.

Executive Function Skills
The faculty and staff participated in some exciting professional development this week surrounding executive function skills. Kristen Jacobsen, from Cognitive Connections, presented on strategies for teaching children forethought, awareness skills, to "know the goal", to initiate tasks, to inhibit impulses and complete tasks. We had a chance to dig deeply into the psychology behind it (mimetic ideational information processing!) and what it can look like from a practical standpoint.

Re-Enrollment
Thank you for your attention and diligence in getting re-enrollment contracts in by today. We sincerely appreciate your effort, as it allows us to make sure we’re appropriately staffed for next year.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Warmly,
Danielle Henry Beale
