Head's Letter

Coo Coo for CoCoRaHS

Head’s Letter 9/29/2017

Dear NNS Families,

Wow, what a week!  We had so much happen in the last five days that I can’t think of another time when I’ve had too many pictures to include in my letter.  Though I missed Monday due to personal reasons (and I missed all of you last week as well!), the rest of the week was a frenzy of activity.  Upper School Student Government candidates were passionate and eloquent in their delivery of campaign speeches.  Each candidate did a great job, but I’m excited to announce that our 2017-18 representative are: 5th grade – Samraj and Bodie, 6th grade – Kinnick and Klaudius, 7th grade –  Virginia and Sadie and 8th grade – Andrew and Annecy.  Congratulations!

I hope you all saw the wonderful article in the Inquirer and Mirror on Thursday about our new partnership with the Artists Association of Nantucket.  The first weeks have been amazing and it’s so nice to see so much art around the school!

The weather this week was typical for Nantucket and we definitely made the right call moving Field Day to Wednesday.  The competition was fierce and the sportsmanship was even better, but at the end of the day the Blue Team held the 1st place trophy.  Bodie got a medal for his costume.

I thought TJ deserved an honorable mention for his effort.

The wet weather on Thursday surely would have made it impossible to have Field Day, but the second grade was not phased by the rain and used it as an opportunity for a yoga class.

While the second grade practiced their sarvangasana, once the clouds cleared the sixth grade spent the afternoon on the climbing tower.  I was particularly glad to see our lice prevention at work!

If you were able to attend Morning Meeting today you would have been treated to our annual visit from Matt Spies who talked about our partnership with the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow (CoCoRaHS) and the data that the second and fourth grades submitted over the last school year.  The bottom line?   We are getting wetter.

And if you were early for Morning Meeting, you might have joined Megan’s class on our new benches in the Great Hall!

Have a great weekend,
