Head's Letter

Ga-Ga for Gaga ball!

Head’s Letter 5/12/2017

Dear NNS Families,

Thank you, thank you, thank you, for a wonderful teacher appreciation week.  I know I speak for the entire faculty when I say that the food has been great and was made even better by the fact that we didn’t have to pack our lunches all week!  We are all looking forward to another week of pampering and great food!  Thanks in advance.

While we’ve been enjoying the fruits of the faculty room this week, the fifth grade has been at Nature’s Classroom “developing a sense of community, a confidence in themselves and an appreciation for others that carries over to the school community”, as well as learning a lot about the ecology of Cape Cod.  Gaga ball is a perennial favorite too!

There is good news on the hiring front!  I’m excited to announce that Kirsten Featherly has accepted my offer to teach third grade next year.  I interviewed several qualified candidates for the position but, in the end the strongest candidate was right in our backyard.  Kirsten is no stranger to third grade and taught it for three years while she was at Marymount International School in Rome, Italy.  You may recall from my letter of introduction of her when she started teaching our Early School 4 class that she holds a M.Ed. from the Bank Street College of Education in New York and a B.A. from Simmons College.

And, with Kirsten’s move to third grade, I couldn’t be happier to announce that I’ve hired Amanda Torchia to lead the ES 4 class.  Amanda has an A.A. in Early Childhood Education from Massachusetts Bay Community College and a Primary Level Montessori Certification from the Northeast Montessori Institute.  She comes to us with the highest accolades from Small Friends where she has been the four-year old class lead teacher since 2014.

Our spring raffle ticket sales are coming to an end so be sure to return your ticket stubs to the office ASAP.  Brenda’s class is the first to win an ice cream party for everyone selling at least one book!

We are very fortunate to have a wonderful playground and playing fields on campus and we love the fact that so many children stay after school to play.  If your child wants to stay after school hours to play on campus, please be sure to stay on the playground to supervise them.   Thank you.

Have a great weekend,

Jon
