It’s true that the weather on Nantucket tends to be a topic of conversation year-round, usually with negative connotations, but this week has been one to remember. Is it July? With such sunny and warm days this week everyone took full advantage being outside.
The third grade invited Jean Miller from the ‘Sconset Trustees to visit us this morning to tell us about how the Sankaty Head Lighthouse was moved. This was part of the unit on lighthouses the third grade has been studying and their research projects on lighthouses across the country are awesome. Here is a link to a cool video about the Lighthouse move. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ftrZtGZ9Hgw
We had the added bonus of getting a private tour of the Sankaty Light this afternoon. Man – what a day!
Though we were out a lot this week, there was plenty happening inside as well. The fifth and sixth grades are collecting clothing and supplies for Syrian refugees and the boxes in the foyer are starting to fill. Who are we kidding? Cold weather is coming any day so now is the time to sort through your winter wear and donate anything you haven’t worn in two years (that’s the cut-off in my house) to those who need it more than you. Thanks.
Thanks also to those of you who replied to my email about PONNS. The PONNS mission is threefold: coordinate volunteer efforts (especially as they relate to teacher and classroom support); organize opportunities for parent education; and sponsor a number of social events for parents throughout the year. All parents are invited and encouraged to participate. PONNS meets on the third Wednesday of the month at 8:15. I look forward to seeing you next month!
We are just two weeks away from Bash so please RSVP to Amanda Brodbeck or get your tickets online here.

And the last bit of sunshine this week came at the “Big Reveal” this morning. Alicia and Jason Graziadei made cupcakes for the fifth and sixth grade and filled them with either pink or blue filling. Everyone bit in together and the boys were psyched!
Have a great weekend,
