Community Service
Congratulations to our 8th grade students on completing their community service presentations! They volunteered with organizations including the Food Bank, the Dreamland Theatre, and the ACK Clean Team. Twenty hours of community service is a graduation requirement here at the New School and students often complete more than that as they become involved with organizations and causes. We are so proud of them!

Music Immersion May
Thank you to Nantucket Community Music Center for providing this opportunity! Five classically trained musicians arrived from Germany this week to teach music to PK-4th grade, and provide musical accompaniment to all students' everyday experiences, like lunch and study hall. Parents are invited to join us for a concert on Thursday, May 9 from 6-6:45pm in the Peace Garden.

This past fall, there was an op-ed in the New York Times about immersive music education that stuck with me. It said: "We also teach language through immersion, so let’s focus on creating an immersive experience in the language of music. Kids learn best when they’re part of communities filled with people of all skill levels for them to play along with, listen to music with, mess up with and just be silly with. Parents, this means you. Don’t let instrument instruction simply be something you nag your kids to endure. Music was never meant to be a lonely vigil. Play together. Make noise together. Find joy together. Take out an instrument and learn a song that you and your child both love."

I encourage you to take Music Immersion May into your own homes! Drum with sticks on a step, sing off-key, and find joy in music together.

Have a great weekend!

Warmly,
Danielle Henry Beale

Raising money for financial aid and programming has never been so quackin’ important!

Here's how it works: Students, families, and friends adopt rubber ducky racers. We race them and you join us at The Creeks to root for your ducks. The three most nimble ducks win awesome prizes! The students who sell the most duckies win awesome prizes too! The school wins your crucial support! EVERYONE WINS!

We are certain we can top last year’s success by counting on all of you to sell ducks and help promote rubber ducky adoptions with friends and family off-island. Our goal is to get 100% participation from our students.

Join us at The Creeks on May 18th at 11 a.m. to see if your rubber ducky makes it across the finish line first! Thank you in advance for your support! If you have any questions, please contact Kate Olson at: kolson@nantucketnewschool.org or 508-228-8569 ext. 302.
